Liposuction is a surgical procedure and therefore requires the usual medical/surgical and anaesthesia practises involved in surgery.
The procedure is used to remove unwanted body fat from areas of the body where deposits of fat tend to collect in people who have inherited the tendency to accumulate excessive fat that cannot be eliminated by dieting nor exercise. And, in general, it serves as a complementary treatment to treat obesity.

Liposculpture
It should be made clear that liposculpture is not a cure for obesity; it cannot be a substitute for an adequate, balanced diet, nor regular exercise. After such a procedure, a patient can gain or lose weight but will maintain a more proportionate appearance and without unsightly bulges. The results will be good as long as you look after yourself after the procedure and have realistic image goals. Liposuction can be used as an individual treatment or combined with others to stretch and remove excess skin, skin that has not been well cared over the years or skin that lacks elasticity. The patient may also want to combine it with treatment for the face, breasts, legs, etc. Although this type of treatment can be applied at any age, young skin and good quality skin have more elasticity which lead to better contouring results.
Candidates
Men and women of any age with excess of localised fat or who simply wish to improve the contour of certain parts of their body:
- Cheeks, jaw and/or neck
- Breasts, chest (gynaecomastia), arms, back, abdomen (tummy tuck), waist, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, legs and ankles.
- Cellulitis, which improves with liposculpture, although it is not the specific treatment for it.
Liposuction is a safe treatment in the right hands (Specialists in Plastic Surgery, Aesthetics and Reconstructive Surgery), carried out in the right place and taking all the necessary precautions. After the procedure, in order to reduce bruising and swelling, compression bandages are applied, massages (lymphatic drainage) are carried out and specific topical treatment are also applied plus cold compresses.
